Alex Stanley continues to honor his late wife Petra with two more additions to Petra’s Park on Fairfield’s North Main Street.
Two shade structures are being built on the east end of the park. These 20-foot by 20-foot shade structures resemble umbrellas and will stay up most of the year. Although the shade cloth fabrics are UV-stabilized and block up to 98% of UV rays, they do not hold up to Iowa’s snow loads, therefore the red shade cloths will not be installed until next spring. The structures were purchased from and installed by Adventure Playground Systems.
Petra’s Park is located at the corner of Briggs Avenue and Main Street, and was dedicated on May 26, 2021 in honor of Alex’s late wife, Petra.
That corner was previously occupied by the Tribune Printing Company building until it collapsed in 2014 and was later demolished. Alex Stanley purchased the land from the prior owner, Ross Walker, and agreed to donate it to the City of Fairfield on the condition it would become a city park.
