An emergency landing brought a single-engine plane onto the roadway in rural Washington County around 6:30 p.m. Friday, according to a police record of the call for service.
The plane’s pilot and sole occupant landed it safely on Riverside Road between 170th and 180th street, according to Chief Deputy Shawn Ellingson.
“Deputies arrived and it was determined by the pilot … (that his) airplane had run out of gas and he was unable to switch tanks in time to keep flying,” Ellingson said in an email. “Local citizens assisted him by (supplying) fuel from the Washington Airport and he was able to safely take off and continue his flight from Lake of the Ozarks to Cedar Rapids.”
