Fairfield Police Department has been made aware of a recent telephone scam.
Victims receive a call from an unknown caller, who will provide a false credit card number in an attempt to make the scam seem real. The unknown caller asks the victim to verify their real credit card number, to ?have the correct information.?
Once the unknown caller secures a real credit card number, the victim is told to dial 7-2, followed by the pound sign (#), after the unknown caller hangs up.
If this is done, the victim?s phone will no longer accept incoming calls.
It is the advice of the Fairfield Police Department to not provide a credit card number to anyone over the phone if the credit card holder did not initiate the contact.
If a scam is completed, attempted or suspected, call the Fairfield Police Department at 472-4146 and report it.
