The Fairfield Police Department investigated a call about a child who was taken while on his way to school Friday.
The police determined the child had been taken by his father and that it was a custodial matter. The father picked up his child at about 8 a.m. Friday. The police were notified at 9:30 a.m.
The police did not issue an Amber Alert. According to a press release from the Jefferson County Attorney?s Office, certain criteria must be met before an Amber alert is issued. One of those is that law enforcement believe the child is in danger of serious bodily harm or death. Law enforcement did not believe this criterion was met because the child was in the custody of his father.
The press release states the child contacted his mother and told her he was with his father. The child said he was OK and that he and his father were going to North Carolina.
