Arrests
An officer reported being out at a residence checking on a wanted person, Monday morning at 11th Street in Kalona. Jackson Tobias Gracey, 18, of Kalona, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for possession of a controlled substance – marijuana, first offense, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was $800 cash only.
An officer reported being out on a vehicle stop, Friday evening at Third Street and First Avenue in Wellman. Michael James Flynn, 29, of Keota, was arrested on an Iowa County warrant for failure to appear on initial for possession of controlled substance – marijuana, first offense. Bond was $1,000 cash only. The subject bonded out through Washington County Jail on his Iowa County warrant. The vehicle was towed by Earl's Towing, Kalona, and to be released with valid proof of insurance, proof of valid driver, and upon the tow bill's being paid in full. The towed vehicle was entered into the system. Further charges are pending per DCI Lab results for possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of controlled substance – marijuana, and driving while barred.
An officer reported being at a residence checking on a subject wanted on a Washington County warrant, Monday night at East Monroe Street in Washington. Amelia Kay Fladung, 23, of Washington, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for possession of controlled substance – marijuana, first offense. Bond was $500 cash only.
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Friday night at Highway 1 in Brighton. Angelic Marie Ehret, 25, of Brighton, was arrested on charges of OWI, first offense, and driving on the wrong side of a two-lane highway. The vehicle was picked up from the location of the stop.
An officer reported being in pursuit of a side-by-side on 200th Street east of Highway 1 in Washington, early Saturday morning. The officer located the side-by-side and the driver at 200th Street. Three additional officers also responded. Tanner Cole Knupp, 23, of Washington, was arrested on charges of OWI first offense, interference with official acts, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and an ATV on a highway.
An officer reported being at a vehicle stop, Saturday evening at East Main Street and South 15th Avenue in Washington. Chelsea Lynn Stottler, 31, of Washington, was arrested on Washington County warrants for three counts of controlled substance violation and two counts of failure to affix drug stamp. Bond was $100,000 cash only. An officer advised that charges are pending per DCI Lab results. The warrant was cleared from the system.
Officers reported being out with a vehicle stop, Sunday afternoon at North Mechanic Street and West Washington Street in Brighton. Loren Paul Swailes, 44, of Keota, was arrested on a charge of driving while barred. Nanetta Sue Swailes, 48, of Keota, was cited at the same time and location for no proof of insurance and allowing an unauthorized person to drive. Moore's responded and towed the vehicle. The vehicle can be released to a valid operator with proof of insurance once the tow bill is paid.
Traffic accident
A caller Friday night at Ginkgo Avenue in West Chester reported a vehicle-vs.-deer accident with no damages to the vehicle and no injuries to the vehicle occupants. The deer was injured with a possible broken back and was in the ditch. An officer responded and was unable to locate the deer.
A caller Friday night at East Washington Street and South Ninth Avenue in Washington reported a hit-and-run car accident with no injuries. The suspect vehicle was a black SUV type of vehicle that continued on southbound on South Ninth Avenue. Damages amounted to more than $1,500. The vehicle was drivable.
An officer reported being out with a damaged vehicle, Friday night at Highway 1 in Washington. The vehicle was drivable. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday afternoon at North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that he struck the Frontier Restaurant building with his silver Jeep Compass. There were no injuries. The caller requested an officer. Information was exchanged with the owner of the restaurant.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Washington Street in Washington reported that a female had wrecked her moped. The caller was unsure if she was injured, but they were able to get her off the roadway. An officer and a Washington County ambulance responded. The ambulance transported one subject to the Washington County Hospital, arriving at 5:14 p.m.
A caller Sunday afternoon at Highway 218 and 310th Street in Crawfordsville reported that a Trailways bus had struck a car northbound on Highway 218 south of 310th Street. Six officers, an Iowa State Patrol officer, a Washington County ambulance, a Washington County Rescue unit, and Crawfordsville Fire and QRS all responded. The ambulance transported one subject to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, arriving at 4:36 p.m. State Patrol will be handling the accident.
Traffic other
A caller early Saturday morning at North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that a boat had been moved by a side-by-side from the parking lot of the former Pipeliners Bar and was then in the roadway. The side-by-side was seen in the Wagon Wheel parking lot. City units responded and located the boat and the trailer parked in the road by the Wagon Wheel. An officer moved the boat and trailer to the parking lot and left a voice mail with the owner advising where the boat was moved. County units located the side-by-side and the driver at a residence on 200th Street.
A caller Sunday afternoon at West Second Street in Washington reported that a male subject wearing a blue tank top was riding a motorcycle type bike on the Kewash Trail. An officer was unable to locate the subject or the vehicle.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with a disabled vehicle, Friday night at Highway 92 and Spruce Avenue in Washington. The vehicle was towed to Capper's by Moore's, and an officer transported subjects to Ainsworth Four Corners.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle along the roadway, Friday night at 230th Street and Highway 1 in Washington. The vehicle was going to be moved in the morning hours.
Fire calls
A caller Friday afternoon at Tulip Avenue in Ainsworth reported that his CO2 detector was going off, and requested that the Fire Department respond. Ainsworth Fire Department responded. CO2 was present, and the homeowner was going to contact someone to fix it.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Sixth Street in Wellman reported a gas spill in the parking lot. Wellman Fire Department responded.
Animal complaint
A caller Monday morning at North Iowa Avenue reported a dog that was up on the roof coming out of the attic window. The house was gray stucco with a steep roof and bluish-gray shutters, and the caller was unsure if the owners were home. An officer responded. The owners were not home. The dog was then evidently back inside the residence, as it barked at the officer at the door. About three hours later, at 12:57 p.m., another caller advised that the dog was out on the roof again and it appeared that it could not get back into the residence. Two officers responded and could not make contact with the owner. The dog was able to get back inside the residence.
A caller Friday morning at East Washington Street in Washington reported two dogs out loose at the bowling alley. An officer responded and caught the dogs. The dog catcher was called, and the animals were transported to the pound.
A caller Friday afternoon at West Fifth Street in Washington reported several cows – approximately 13 of them – out on the roadway. An officer responded. The owner was notified and responded to contain the cattle.
A caller Friday afternoon at Seventh Avenue in Wellman reported a loose Great Dane that was aggressive toward the caller. An officer responded and issued a written warning to Robin Lavoie, of Wellman, for allowing a dog to run at large.
An officer reported being out with an injured deer along the roadway, Friday night at Highway 1 in Washington. The deer was injured and was put down.
A caller Saturday afternoon at South Wiley Boulevard in Washington reported that a vehicle at the Pizza Ranch had had a dog inside for a long time with all the windows up. An officer responded. The dog was not in distress. The officer did speak with the vehicle operator. There was no problem.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Main Street in Washington reported that a brown pitbull was loose again. The dog was in the caller's yard. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate any loose pitbull.
A caller Saturday night at Highway 1 and 130th Street in Kalona reported that a deer was hit near the English River Bridge on Highway 1 south of Kalona. It was still alive in the roadway. The caller requested a deputy. The deer was made final and removed from the roadway.
A caller Saturday night at West Jefferson Street in Washington reported that a pitbull and another dog tried to attack her while she was walking her dog. The caller gave the location of the owner's house. A verbal warning was given in reference to the tether law. The dog was never off its property.
Assault
A caller Friday afternoon at South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that there was an assault outside of the school, and the caller requested an officer. An officer responded. Two juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct.
Civil standby
A caller Sunday afternoon at 335th Street in Brighton requested a civil standby to retrieve her belongings. An officer spoke with the caller. She was going to wait until she had more assistance.
Disorderly conduct
A caller Sunday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported that her husband was drunk and threatening her. The caller requested a deputy. Johnson County responded and had the Washington County deputies disregard. The subject calmed down prior to their arrival, and they were going to work it out.
A caller Sunday night at East Main Street in Washington reported having a problem with a tenant, and requested an officer. An officer responded and requested an ambulance for the caller. There was no transport. The landlord was going to continue with the eviction process.

A caller Friday night at South Eighth Avenue in Washington reported a vehicle that had been parked in front of his residence and had been running for the past 20 minutes. An officer responded.
A caller Sunday night at A Avenue in Kalona reported loud music coming from the neighboring residence, and requested a deputy. An officer spoke with subjects at the residence, who were advised to keep it down.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Sunday morning at Seventh Street in Kalona reported that she was trying to retrieve property and a male subject was trying to disable her vehicle. An officer responded. She retrieved her items and left.
Fraud
A caller Saturday night at Enterprise Drive in Riverside reported that a subject came in with a fake ID and tried to purchase alcohol. The clerk kept the ID. The ID was confiscated. The incident was documented.
Hang-up 911 call
Dispatch reported receiving a hang-up 911 call, Friday night at Green Meadows Drive in Washington. An officer was advised and was disregarded. A child had called from the phone.
Dispatch reported a 911 hang-up, Saturday morning at North Avenue D in Washington. Two officers responded and were unable to locate the caller.
Illegal dumping
A caller Saturday night at North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that someone put five bags of garbage on their lawn. The caller requested an officer. The caller then called back to say it was his brother's garbage. There was no problem.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Friday morning at Fifth Street in Kalona reported being verbally harassed at the bank. An officer spoke to the subject and advised her to speak to her attorney for a no-contact order. The incident was documented.
Public intoxication
Dispatch received a report of a possibly intoxicated female walking westbound on Main Street, Friday afternoon at East Second Street and North 12th Avenue in Washington. An officer located the subject, who was not intoxicated.
Search warrant
An officer reported executing a search warrant on a vehicle, Friday night at Lexington Boulevard in Washington. The vehicle was towed by Earl's, to be released to a valid driver with proof of insurance, and upon payment of the tow bill.

Trespass
A caller Friday evening at East Third Street in Washington reported a suspicious male who may have been on his family's property. An officer responded.
A caller Saturday morning at Highway 1 and Highway 92 North in Washington reported that a trespasser was just on the property and was unsure where he was at then. The subject was on foot. An officer responded and was unable to locate the subject. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Parkside Estates Road in Washington reported subjects moving into an abandoned trailer. An officer responded and spoke to all parties involved. The subject was going to remove his belongings and leave. The possible owner of the trailer called in to say that the trailer court manager took the title to the trailer and would not return it, and requested an officer. It was a civil issue. The trailer park manager called to have an officer ask area subjects to leave the trailer court. An officer responded. It was still a civil issue. They were going to try to work it out on Monday.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Elm Avenue in Keota reported to Keokuk County a subject on the property who was refusing to leave. The male subject did leave, but the caller was requesting to speak to a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller. The male subject, of Washington, was advised that he could not return to the property.
A call Saturday night at Parkside Estates Road in Washington was an error in record.
A caller early Sunday morning at North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that he could hear subjects outside by his yard and someone knocked on his door. It was unknown which direction the subjects went. An officer checked the area and was unable to locate the subjects.
A call was received regarding trespass, Sunday morning at Parkside Estates Road in Washington.
A caller Sunday afternoon at 275th Street in Brighton reported a subject trespassing on his property by boat. The subject came in from the boat access. Two officers responded. Marlin Gale Derby, 59, of Richland was cited for trespass.
A caller Sunday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported that their neighbor was looking into their window. An officer responded. The neighbor was advised that the caller no longer wanted contact from them.
Vandalism
A caller Friday morning at East Third Street in Washington reported that the business was vandalized inside. The caller was unsure if anything was missing. An officer responded. Nothing was taken. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday morning at Monroe Street in Ainsworth reported that their tires were slashed. An officer responded and spoke with the subject. The incident was documented.
A caller Sunday morning at Monroe Street in Ainsworth reported vandalism to her yard. Someone drove through her ditch and damaged her trash can. She also had belongings out for spring cleanup, and those belongings were scattered in the yard and in the road. Documentation was made.
Welfare check
A caller Saturday afternoon at West Washington Street and North Farmer Street in Brighton reported a young child in the street with no adult around. An officer responded. The child was returned to their grandmother. An officer intended to notify DHS of the incident.
A caller Saturday night at West Main Street in Washington reported that a male and a female appeared to be arguing in the park. The caller requested that an officer check on them. An officer spoke with both subjects. The argument was verbal only.
All other theft
A caller Friday morning at West Madison Street in Washington reported some items missing from his vehicle. An officer responded and spoke to the subject. Only two things were missing. Documentation was made.
A caller early Sunday morning at West Madison Street in Washington reported that someone stole the light bulb from outside her garage. An officer responded. Documentation was made.
A caller early Sunday morning at Westview Drive in Washington reported having problems with a customer's not paying for his hotel room. City units responded. An officer planned to speak with the county attorney for possible theft charges. Subjects were packing up their belongings and would be leaving the hotel.

A caller Friday night at South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a suspicious item in her mailbox. An officer responded. The report was documented.
A caller Friday night at South Sixth Street in Kalona reported that a male subject had been drinking all day and was then trying to get inside the residence. Three officers responded. The subject was located and was being taken care of by a family member.
A caller early Sunday morning at West Monroe Street in Washington reported that someone tried to break into her son's locked vehicle. They had the subject on video. Someone also threw eggs at their house earlier in the night. An officer responded. The suspect appeared to be a juvenile male who was wearing khaki shorts and a dark-colored shirt. The information was documented.
A caller early Sunday morning at East Washington Street in Washington reported that a subject had been sleeping in his vehicle for the past hour in the parking lot. When the caller approached him, he was slurring his speech and then went back to sleep. The caller could smell alcohol in the vehicle. City units responded. The subject was under the legal limit and was advised to move along.
A caller early Monday morning at East Second Street in Washington reported that her friend had called her saying a male subject was at the residence and she wanted him to leave. City units responded. The male subject left the residence for the night and was going to return the next day to get the rest of his belongings.
