Arrests
An officer reported being out at a residence in reference to a case file, Friday morning at North Avenue D in Washington. Mark Allen Staley, 54, of Washington, was arrested on charges of two counts of simple assault and disorderly conduct.
A caller Friday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported that a drunk subject had parked his truck in the roadway of the casino. He could hardly walk and went toward the casino. He was described as a white male driver with a beard. Tony Alan Curtis, 57, of South Amana, was arrested on charges of OWI first offense, and public intoxication first offense.
A caller early Sunday morning at Highway 92 in Washington reported locating a wanted subject. Brandon Lee Garrels, 42, of Redwood Avenue, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for probation violation on original charge of possession of controlled substance -- marijuana third or subsequent offense. Bond was $5,000 cash only; pickup/200-mile radius. The warrant was cleared from the system.
An officer reported a vehicle stop, Sunday afternoon at 190th Street in Keota. Samuel Edward Clarke, 52, of Wellman, was arrested on a charge of driving while barred. The vehicle was picked up by a family member.
A caller reported a vehicle-vs.-pole accident, Sunday afternoon at Spruce Avenue in Washington. Two officers responded. Jovany Reyes-Espinoza, 24, of Keota, was arrested on charges of driving while license barred, and driving under the influence third or subsequent offense. An officer transported the male subject to his residence. He will also file a state accident report.
A caller Sunday afternoon at North Sixth Avenue in Washington reported that a subject was threatening him outside of his residence. Two officers responded. Mark Staley, 54, of Washington, was arrested on charges of interference with official acts, public intoxication third or subsequent, and simple assault.
A caller Sunday night at North Marion Avenue in Washington reported that two female subjects went through her vehicle and drove off. An officer responded and spoke to the caller. Two officers later found the vehicle on a traffic stop. Jennifer Paige Smallwood, 24, of Washington, was arrested on charges of operating while intoxicated first offense, and interfering with official acts. Charges are pending per DCI Lab results. Brenda Marcela Rodriguez-Carillo, 24, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested at the same time and location on charges of interfering with official acts, third-degree burglary, and public intoxication. Charges are pending DCI Lab results.
A caller early Monday morning at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported that a jailer was assaulted by an inmate. Three officers responded. Jennifer Paige Smallwood, 24, of Washington, was arrested on a charge of assault on persons in certain occupations, causing bodily injury.
Traffic accident
A caller Friday evening at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident with no injuries. The caller was in a silver Toyota Corolla and requested an officer, as the other party had to leave. Drivers exchanged information. Damages were less than $1,500. No citations were issued.
A caller Sunday morning at Dogwood Avenue in Wellman reported that at the bridge she rolled the car. Passengers included two children, 1 year old and 4 years old. The caller advised that she had everyone out of the vehicle, and no one was injured that she could tell. Wellman QRS, a Wellman rescue unit and an officer responded. Earl's responded to tow the vehicle. The vehicle operator was Shaylee Ranae Adrian, of Keota. A state report will be filed.
A caller Sunday afternoon at North Second Avenue and East Third Street in Washington reported a two-vehicle accident, with the roadway blocked. The caller was complaining that her head hurt. Vehicle operators were a male juvenile, of Washington, and Angela Atilano, of Washington. The juvenile was cited for failure to yield upon entering a through highway. Moore's responded to tow the S-10 truck. Damages amounted to more than $1,500. A state report was filed. The accident was a minor personal-injury accident.
A caller Sunday evening at Highway 218 and 175th Street in Riverside reported that he struck a deer on Highway 218 near Highland School, with his 2010 GMC Sierra pickup. Iowa State Patrol responded and handled any accident report needed.
A caller Monday morning at Highway 22 in Kalona reported that she hit a deer. Her Chevrolet Equinox was drivable. There were no injuries to vehicle occupants, and the deer was off the roadway. An officer was advised for documentation purposes.
Traffic other
A caller Friday night at Kiwi Avenue and 260th Street in Washington reported that her green Ford Escape was stuck on the dirt portion of Kiwi Avenue by 260th. The call got hold of a friend for a ride. She was going to be contacting AAA on Saturday to see if the vehicle could be towed out. The incident was documented.
A caller Sunday evening at West Madison Street and Highway 1 in Washington reported a subject in a red or maroon Camaro was revving his engine and almost cut off the caller on Madison. He turned south on Highway 1. An officer made contact with the driver, who had just left his father's visitation. There were ongoing family issues. He planned to get the registration up to date on Monday.
Disabled vehicles
A disabled vehicle with a flat tire was reported, Saturday night at 170th Street and Highway 218 in Riverside. It was added to the system.
Fire calls
A caller Friday morning reported an unattended grass fire west of Riverside on Redwood Avenue and just north of Highway 22. The fire was not very large. Riverside Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire.
A caller Sunday afternoon at 242nd Street in Washington reported someone burning something on the shooting range. Washington Fire Department responded, and an officer was contacted to respond, as well.
A caller Saturday night at 190th Street in West Chester reported a grass fire out of control. Wellman Fire Department responded, and the fire was extinguished.
A caller Sunday night at Orange Avenue in Washington reported a car on fire. The subject called back and advised that the fire was out before the Washington Fire Department and Kalona QRS arrived. All units were disregarded.
A caller Sunday night reported a field fire at 300th Street in Brighton. Brighton Fire Department responded.
An officer reported being out with leaves burning unattended, early Monday morning at Ninth Avenue in Wellman. The officer spoke to the resident, who was going to put the fire out.
Animal complaint
A caller Saturday morning at North Eighth Avenue in Washington reported a St. Bernard running around and at her residence. The dog was being secured in the neighbor's yard until the owner's arrival.
A caller Saturday morning at West Main Street in Washington requested help with capturing a bat in the business. An officer responded, but the bat flew off into an area and they were unable to locate it.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Washington Street in Washington reported that the neighbor's pitbull was loose and charged at her again. An officer responded, and the owner of the dog was not home. An officer spoke with the owner via phone and gave them a verbal warning for their dog's being at large. They were currently putting up a fence for the dog.
Assault
A caller Saturday night at Larch Avenue in Washington reported being assaulted by their mother. Two officers responded. A report will be filed, and the parties were separated.
Burglary
A caller Saturday evening at North Washington Street in Crawfordsville reported that someone was attempting to steal their firewood. They also did damage to the yard. An officer responded and spoke with both parties. The subjects exchanged phone numbers. No firewood was taken, and there was no damage to the yard. Documentation was taken.
Disorderly conduct
An officer advised Saturday that charges were filed on one juvenile for filing a false police report. Charges were filed on a second juvenile for criminal mischief. The charges were in reference to an incident that occurred March 26 at West Second Street and North Avenue C in Washington. A report will be filed.
A caller Sunday morning at North Avenue D in Washington reported a subject with a baseball bat beating on the house in the backyard. Two officers responded. The subject retrieved some of his belongings and left the residence.

A caller early Monday morning at Eighth Avenue in Wellman reported loud music. An officer responded. The subject was advised to turn the music down.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Friday afternoon at 11th Street in Wellman reported a possible violation of a no-contact order. No violation occurred.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Sunday afternoon at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported that his family was being harassed. An officer responded and spoke to all parties involved. The subject was told to cease contact and to stop putting up flyers.
A caller Sunday night at Seventh Avenue in Wellman reported being harassed by someone who left an item on her doorstep on Monday. The caller requested a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.
Motor vehicle theft
A caller Friday night at North Second Avenue in Washington reported that they stole their mother's car. Three officers responded. An officer transported the juvenile back to their residence. Juvenile Probation was notified.
Runaways/missing person
A caller Friday night at 315th Street in Washington reported that her daughter did not come home from school. Two officers located the juvenile in Washington. An officer transported the juvenile to her residence and turned her over to her mother.
Sex offender
A caller Friday night at South Mechanic Street in Brighton reported a possible sex offender registry violation. It was turned over to Henry County.
Suspicious activity
A caller early Monday morning at 335th Street in Brighton reported suspicious activity. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle.
Vandalism
A caller Friday at South Marion Avenue in Washington reported vandalism to his vehicle. There were multiple scratches on the hood of the 2012 Chevrolet Malibu. An officer responded. Photos were taken. Documentation was made.
A caller Friday afternoon at Second Street in Wellman reported that someone threw glass bottles full of urine at his truck sometime the previous night, damaging it. The caller requested to speak with a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller. The incident was documented.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Jefferson Street in Washington reported the skid loaders working on a residence from behind him had been driven through the yard and had done damage. Another caller reported that the skid loader had tracked mud all over East Washington Street. An officer was unable to locate anyone. The people working construction had already left for the day.
Welfare check
An officer reported being out with a vehicle checking on the driver, early Sunday morning at South Second Avenue in Washington. Everything appeared to be fine.
A caller Monday morning at 220th Street and Spruce Avenue in Washington reported a male subject walking alongside the road wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and dark sweatpants. An officer responded and located the subject. The subject was transported to Washington.
All other theft
A caller Friday morning at 140th Street and Highway 1 in Kalona reported vandalism to the underground primary cable. It was cut and stolen. A report will be filed.
A caller Saturday night at West Second Street in Washington reported that someone stole his bicycle from the church. He had the tire off and was working on it. It was described as a silver mountain bike. An officer spoke with the caller, and the information was documented.
All other offenses
A caller Friday afternoon at East Monroe Street in Washington requested that an officer check on a report from the Child Abuse hotline. An officer responded for documentation purposes.
A caller Friday night at West Jefferson Street in Washington reported that their neighbor had attached some type of cable to their house. An officer responded. This was possibly done by the cable company. The caller was going to make contact with them. The incident was documented.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle at the storage units, early Sunday morning at E Avenue in Kalona. The subject was sleeping in his vehicle. An officer gave the subject a ride to his residence.
