Traffic accident
A vehicle-vs.-deer accident with no injuries was reported, Friday night at Highway 218 and 160th Street in Riverside. The caller had Moore's en route for a tow.
An officer advised on Saturday that charges were filed on Jennifer Tweedy, of Washington, for striking an unattended vehicle. This was in reference to an incident reported on April 7 at South Marion Avenue in Washington. Information was exchanged between vehicle owners.
Callers reported a truck in the ditch across from the Ainsworth Fire Department, Saturday morning at Highway 92 in Ainsworth. An officer responded and requested Moore's to tow the vehicle, to be released upon payment of the tow bill and after the driver spoke with the deputy. Damages amounted to more than $1,500, and a state accident report will be filed.
A caller Saturday morning at Highway 1 in Washington reported witnessing a single vehicle accident. Three subjects were out of the vehicle and had injuries. The vehicle was smoking. Two Washington County officers, an Iowa State Patrol officer, a Washington County ambulance, Washington Fire and Rescue, Brighton Fire and Brighton QRS responded. The vehicle operator was Jerry Ford, of Letts. Damages amounted to more than $1,500. A state accident report will be filed. Moore's responded and towed the vehicle. There was no medical transport.
Traffic stop serious
An officer reported a vehicle pursuit with a white Charger, Saturday night. The officer deployed stop sticks. The vehicle rolled over at West Lincoln Street and South Iowa Avenue in Washington, with one trap and unknown injuries. Four Washington County officers, a Washington County ambulance, Washington Fire, and a Washington County Rescue unit responded. Moore's towed the vehicle. There was no ambulance transport. The subject went by private vehicle. A state accident report will be filed. Charges were filed on a juvenile for eluding and speeding 60 mph in a 35-mph zone.
Traffic other
A caller Friday morning at South Avenue C in Washington reported an unhooked trailer parked on the road. An officer responded and contacted the owner. The trailer was going to be removed.
A caller Friday night at Highway 92 in Ainsworth reported that two vehicles were blocking traffic in the eastbound lane in front of Marr Park in Ainsworth. Two officers responded and spoke with both drivers, and no further issues were anticipated.
A caller Saturday morning at North Second Avenue in Washington reported that there was a black Dodge Journey in the roadway. The vehicle had been there for the past 30 minutes. An officer spoke with the registered owner, and the vehicle was moved.
An officer reported being out with a vehicle in reference to issuing a parking ticket, Saturday afternoon at North Second Avenue and East Fifth Street in Washington. The officer issued a ticket for the vehicle being parked within 2 feet of a stop zone.
Disabled vehicles
A caller Friday afternoon at Larch Avenue and Highway 92 in Washington reported two trucks parked on the side of the road. A male had a crowbar, and the caller was unsure if he was attempting to get into the other truck. An officer responded. Subjects were working on repairing a vehicle. There was no problem.
Fire calls
A caller Saturday afternoon at 240th Street in Keota reported that his controlled burn was out of control. Keota Fire responded along with Wellman and Washington fire departments to extinguish the fire.
A caller Saturday afternoon at East Polk Street in Washington reported a fire alarm coming from Zone 11, the back boiler water. Washington Fire responded and advised they were having issues with their alarm system that would not reset. They were going to get it fixed.
Animal complaint
A caller Friday morning at Highway 22 and Red Oak Avenue in Riverside reported a deceased deer on the side of the road, and he was requesting a deer tag for it. An officer responded and issued a deer tag to Wilbur Mast, of Riverside.
An officer reported being out with a loose dog, Friday evening at West Second Street in Riverside. The owner was located and given a verbal warning for dog at large.
A caller Friday night at West Main Street in Washington reported a brown pit bull dog was outside in the yard, not on a leash. An officer was unable to locate.
A caller Saturday morning at East Adams Street in Washington reported that the neighbor's dog had been lunging at people and barking at everyone when they walked by. An officer spoke with the dog owner and made them aware of the complaint. There was adequate food, water, shelter, etc., for the dog.
Family offense non-violent
A caller Friday night at Highway 1 in Washington reported having a problem with her 16-year-old son. The caller called back as an officer was en route to her location. The problem with the juvenile had been resolved.
Fraud
A caller Friday morning at West Adams Street in Washington reported a subject hacking into her accounts. The caller was unsure who exactly was doing it, as there had been some allowed internet access in the past. An officer responded for documentation purposes.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Saturday evening at 160th Street in Washington reported a stalker situation. An officer spoke to the caller. She did not wish to pursue charges this time. The officer also spoke to the other party, who was advised to cease all contact or next time he would be charged.
Suspicious activity
A caller Friday afternoon at West Fountain Street in Brighton reported a suspicious male subject outside of the store. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the subject. Another caller called in and advised that the male subject was still walking back and forth. An officer responded. The subject left in a vehicle before the officer arrived.
A caller early Saturday morning at East Third Street in Washington reported that there was someone south of her house with a flashlight. An officer responded and was unable to locate anyone in the area.
A caller Saturday afternoon at South Avenue B in Washington reported a male subject who was looking inside the vehicles that were parked at Glen's Auto. It appeared that he then had something under his arm. The subject was a tall male with a beard, and a description of his apparel was given. City units located the subject, who was trying to sell a mat to the business owner. There was no problem.
A caller early Sunday morning at South 10th Avenue in Washington reported suspicious activity. Two officers responded and checked the area and were unable to locate a problem.
Tobacco violations
A caller Friday afternoon at South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported a student who was vaping in the bathroom. He was then in the office. An officer responded. The juvenile was cited for possession of tobacco under the legal age, first offense.
Vandalism
A caller early Sunday morning at East Third Street in Washington reported that someone cut the duct tape on her window and air conditioner with a knife. An officer responded. The report was unfounded.
Welfare check
A caller Friday afternoon at South Marion Avenue in Washington reported a welfare check on a subject. An officer responded and spoke with the subject. He was OK.
A caller Friday night at East Madison Street in Washington requested a welfare check on her aunt. The caller resided out of state and had been unable to make contact with her for several days. An officer responded and was able to locate the subject, who was fine.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Old White Way in Ainsworth reported that there was a dog left in an abandoned vehicle. An officer responded. Documentation was made for the time being. Another officer responded later in the evening and was unable to locate the vehicle or dogs at the residence.
A caller Saturday night at East Main Street in Washington requested a welfare check. An officer was advised. The subject was accounted for, and no welfare check was conducted.
All other theft
A caller Friday afternoon at East Washington Street in Washington reported a gas drive-off of $40.26 that occurred in the past 10 minutes. The vehicle was a gold Buick with a male driver. The license plate number given did not match the vehicle description. An officer was advised. The incident was documented.
A caller Friday night at East Second Street in Washington reported theft of a pressure washer from a property in the City of Washington that had occurred within the past two days. An officer spoke with the caller. The incident is under investigation.
All other offenses
A caller Friday morning at South Sixth Street in Kalona requested to talk to an officer about their neighbor's driving in their yard. An officer responded and spoke with the caller. The officer was going to make contact with the neighbor. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday evening at Enterprise Drive in Riverside reported a male subject who was trying to live in the trash area of the store and had been there for three days. Officers responded. An officer transported the subject to Hometown Inn in Washington.
An officer reported being flagged down by a citizen at the Wagon Wheel, early Sunday morning at East Seventh Street in Washington. An additional officer also responded. The owner was having issues when trying to tell a party to leave, and a verbal dispute ensued. The party left, and everything was fine.
