A caller Wednesday morning at Highway 218 and 175th Street in Riverside reported hitting a deer on the highway. An officer responded. Documentation was made.
Traffic stop serious
An officer reported being on a vehicle stop north of Kalona on Highway 1, Tuesday afternoon. A citation was issued to Shantelle Emma Chalupa, 26, of Washington, for driving under suspension.
Traffic other
A caller Tuesday afternoon at North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported following a silver Honda Civic that was being driven erratically and was then parked. The caller gave the license plate information, but it did not match the vehicle description. An officer was advised. The information was documented.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with a disabled semi in traffic, Tuesday afternoon at West Madison Street and South Avenue B in Washington.
An officer reported being out with an unoccupied disabled vehicle, Tuesday night at Highway 218 in Ainsworth. The vehicle was added to the system.
A caller reported needing help with a flat tire, early Wednesday morning at Highway 22 in Riverside. An officer responded, and the tire was changed upon the officer's arrival.
Fire calls
A caller Tuesday afternoon at Hemlock Avenue in West Chester reported a controlled burn that was out of control. Washington Fire responded and extinguished the fire.
A caller Tuesday evening at Eighth Street in Kalona reported the smell of natural gas inside the residence. Kalona Fire and Alliant responded.
A caller Tuesday evening at 230th Street and Spruce Avenue in Ainsworth reported that her brother-in-law was burning something and the fire was out of control. Washington Fire Department responded.
A caller Tuesday night at 14th Street in Kalona reported that an anhydrous ammonia tank at the fertilizer plant was leaking. Kalona Fire, Kalona QRS and Vision Ag all responded. The tank was removed.
Animal complaint
A deputy advised receiving a report of livestock in the roadway, Tuesday night at 305th Street and Wayland Road in Washington. Two officers responded. The owner was notified and responded. Cattle were off the roadway, and the owner was going to call back in if he needed traffic control.
Burglary
A caller Tuesday afternoon at West Madison Street in Washington reported that her son's vehicle was broken into sometime between 11 p.m. Monday and 7:30 a.m. Tuesday. The passenger window was taped up, and that was ripped off. Nothing was taken. An officer was advised for documentation purposes.
Disorderly conduct
A caller Tuesday afternoon at Eighth Avenue in Wellman reported that he was sitting outside when a female walked her dog past his residence and began yelling at him. The caller requested a deputy. An officer spoke with the caller and was unable to locate the female subject. It was an ongoing issue between the caller and the subject.
Fraud
A caller Tuesday afternoon at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a subject who called in a fake prescription. An officer responded. The prescription was not filled. The incident was documented.
A caller Tuesday night at South Seventh Avenue in Washington reported credit card fraud. Three transactions were made to Walmart. An officer responded. The caller had canceled two of the transactions, and there was one package that would be delivered the next day, and she would return that package to the store. Documentation was made.
Suspicious activity
A caller Tuesday evening at 250th Street in Washington reported that a suspicious vehicle went on the property and then left, going westbound. She believed it was possibly the subject with whom she had a no-contact order. Two officers responded. It was not the subject that the caller thought it was. The report was unfounded.
A caller Tuesday night at North Fifth Avenue in Washington reported a subject digging in the dumpster. The caller believed he had a no-contact order with one of the tenants. An officer spoke with the subject, who was not causing any problems.
Welfare check
A caller Tuesday night at East Washington Street in Washington reported that a customer advised they heard someone cry for help from across the street. Two officers responded. The officers spoke with subjects in an apartment who advised that they were playing a game and everything was fine.
All other theft
A caller Tuesday evening at C Avenue in Kalona reported the theft of $70 from him while he was at the YMCA in Kalona, and requested to speak with a deputy. A report will be filed. The money was recovered and returned to the caller.
