Arrests
An officer reported being out with a subject wanted on three warrants through Washington County, Friday afternoon at Broad Street in Keosauqua. Nicholas Loren Nichols, of Ainsworth, was arrested on Washington County warrants for failure to appear for pretrial for fourth-degree criminal mischief; failure to appear for initial driving while license denied, suspended, canceled or revoked; controlled substance violation – marijuana; and failure to affix drug stamp. Washington County Jail will make extradition arrangements with Van Buren County Jail. A detainer was placed with Van Buren County Jail.
An officer reported being out with a subject wanted out of Washington County, Friday night at Lexington Boulevard in Washington. Melanie Elizabeth Mathes, 39, of Washington, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for failure to appear for pretrial on an original charge of possession of controlled substance o-methamphetamine first offense. The officer transported the subject to the Washington County Jail.
A caller Saturday night at First Street S.W. in Cedar Rapids reported locating a subject on a Washington County warrant. Amashoda Shante Pearson, 29, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for trespass first offense. Bond was $300 cash only. Extradition arrangements will be made with Linn County. An officer served the warrant on Sunday, and the entry was cleared from the system.
A caller Sunday night at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported a subject in the lobby who had a valid warrant through Washington County. Nicholas Edward Furman, 39, of Washington, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for probation violation on original charge of two counts of assault causing bodily injury. Bond was $2,000 cash only. An officer served the warrant, and the warrant was cleared from the system.
Traffic accident
A caller Friday morning at 320th Street in Crawfordsville reported a one-car accident, and was not exactly sure of her location. The vehicle was on its top. The caller advised she was not injured. An officer responded. The vehicle was just west of Yucca on 320th in the south ditch. The vehicle operator was Emilie Linn Olveda, of North Liberty. A state accident report was filed. No citations were issued.
A caller Friday morning at Walnut Avenue in Riverside reported that his blue Honda Civic, parked in the parking lot, had been struck along the side of the vehicle. No one was around. An officer responded. There was a considerable amount of damage and no suspects. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday morning at Highway 1 in Washington reported striking a pole in the parking lot. There were no injuries. An officer responded. The vehicle operator was Judith Ann Murphy, of Washington. Damages were more than $1,500. A state accident report will be filed.
Traffic other
A caller Friday afternoon at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported to the Police Department that two vehicles that had been parked in the area had not been moved. They were obstructing the vision for oncoming motorists. The vehicles were a four-door dark navy Cadillac with a tan convertible top, and a four-door black Buick with a pink strap across the hood. An officer responded and chalked the tires. Documentation was made.
A caller Friday night at 13th Street in Wellman reported that her window was broken. An officer responded. The window was broken by a rock from a lawn mower owned by the city. The caller was going to talk to the city about it on Monday.
Disabled vehicles
An officer reported being out with a disabled trailer, Sunday morning at 250th Street in Washington. The trailer was well off the travel portion and had been added to the system. The license plates expired in 2017.
Fire calls
A caller Friday night at Riverside Road in Riverside reported a possible vehicle on fire in the neighbor's yard. An ambulance, Riverside QRS and Riverside Fire were paged to the call. Riverside Fire advised that it was a controlled burn. An officer responded to the residence and advised the subject to call in his controlled burns.
A caller Saturday afternoon at South Mechanic Street in Brighton reported that the transformer was on fire. An officer, Brighton Fire Department and Alliant Energy responded. The fire was extinguished.
A caller Sunday afternoon at A Avenue in Kalona reported that there was a fire burning behind their trailer, with a lot of black smoke, and they were concerned that the trailer would catch on fire. Kalona Fire Department responded. The fire was extinguished.
A caller early Monday morning at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a general fire alarm in Zone 0. The alarm company called back and advised to disregard the fire alarm.
Animal complaint
A caller Friday afternoon at West Madison Street in Washington reported that a dog had been running around her neighborhood all day. An officer responded and was unable to locate the animal.
A caller Friday afternoon at South Second Avenue in Washington advised that a dog was outside barking at him. An officer responded and was unable to locate the animal.
A caller Friday night at East Main Street in Washington reported an altercation on the street over a dog. An officer responded and spoke with all parties involved. The subjects were going to stay separated.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Orange Avenue and Highway 22 in Kalona reported cattle loose near the roadway. An officer responded and made contact with a family member of the cattle owner, to put the cattle away.
A caller Sunday afternoon at Highway 218 and 135th Street in Riverside reported a deer in the roadway that was hit by a car and was still alive. An officer responded and was unable to locate the deer.
Assault
A caller Saturday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported an assault and threats made from an unknown male subject during the concert at the casino. Documentation was made.
Civil dispute
A caller Sunday afternoon at Larch Avenue in Washington reported that a family member who was not to be on the property took items from the residence. An officer spoke with both parties. This was again a civil matter. All parties were advised of that and advised to contact their attorneys.
Civil standby
A caller Friday night at Walnut Avenue in Riverside reported that he would like a civil standby so that he could retrieve two vehicles. The caller never showed up, and the vehicles were not there.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Friday night at West Railroad Street in Brighton reported that her 15-year-old daughter was out of control because of getting her school laptop taken away. The caller requested that a deputy speak with her. An officer spoke with the caller, who was going to turn the laptop back over to the school.
A third-party caller Saturday afternoon at Fourth Street in Wellman reported a domestic situation at an address in Wellman. Three officers responded. The altercation was verbal only. The parties were separated.
A caller Saturday night at West Madison Street in Washington reported a juvenile in the business who was refusing to go home. Two officers responded. The juvenile was located at McDonald's. The juvenile was transported to his residence.
Illegal dumping
A caller Friday afternoon at Nutmeg Avenue in Washington reported that someone dumped yard waste and old flower pots in a field drive in the area. The vehicle used was possibly a green truck seen that day in the area. The information was documented.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Sunday afternoon at E Avenue in Kalona reported that a subject who had been harassing her in the past was at her place of employment taking pictures of her vehicle. An officer responded and requested documentation.
Public intoxication
Dispatch received a report of an intoxicated female walking eastbound on Highway 78 near Highway 1, Sunday afternoon in Brighton. The subject was wearing a maroon poncho and carrying several bags. An officer responded and checked the area and was unable to locate the subject.
Stolen property
A caller Saturday afternoon at 250th Street in Washington reported having just found several of her firearms missing from her residence. There were no signs of forced entry. She believed the suspect could be the subject with whom she recently had a civil standby. An officer left a voice mail message.
Trespass
A caller Friday night at St. Marys Street in Riverside reported that a juvenile may have gone inside the church with flashlights. An officer responded and checked the area, and was unable to locate anyone.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Nutmeg Avenue in Kalona reported that people had set up a camper on his property without permission. An officer responded. Documentation was made at that time, on the advice of the county attorney.
A caller Sunday afternoon at North Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that someone had been camping inside one of the dugouts at Stewart School. An officer responded and was going to attempt to locate the subject camping in the dugout and advise them to move on.
Vandalism
A caller Sunday morning at East Main Street in Washington reported that an unknown subject had come into her fenced-in patio area and written messages on her patio and stairs in sidewalk chalk. It had happened between 9 p.m. Saturday, and Sunday morning. The caller wanted the incident documented.
Welfare check
A caller Friday afternoon at Ainsworth requested a welfare check on a client whom they had been unable to reach. An officer responded, and the subject was accounted for.
A caller Friday afternoon at East Monroe Street in Washington reported that a subject returned an item they had bought and used the money from returning it without their permission. An officer responded and spoke with all parties, and advised that it was a civil issue.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Second Street in Wellman requested a welfare check on her mother. She was fine and was with family.
A caller Sunday morning at South Avenue C in Washington requested a welfare check. An officer was advised and spoke with the caller. Documentation was made.
A caller Sunday morning at West First Street in Riverside requested a welfare check on a subject the caller had not been able to make contact with. An officer responded and was unable to locate the subject.
A caller Sunday night at North Fifth Avenue in Washington requested a welfare check on a friend who called her and was upset about people in her apartment. Two officers responded. The subject did not want to speak to officers about the issue that night.
All other theft
A caller Saturday afternoon at Lake Darling Road in Brighton reported that her husband was a Lake Darling and he told her that two male subjects had broken into his vehicle. An officer responded. One vehicle had received damages from the operator of another vehicle. Information was exchanged between the two parties.
A caller Sunday afternoon at North Iowa Avenue in Washington reported that her son's bicycle was taken sometime between 10 p.m. Saturday and 8:30 a.m. Sunday. It was a purple Krome Genesis stunt bike with four pegs. There was also a Five Nights at Freddy's watch on the handlebars that had a checkered band. An officer was advised for documentation purposes. The bicycle was located at West Washington Street. A friend of the caller's met with an officer to pick up the bicycle.
All other offenses
A caller Friday morning at 335th Street in Brighton requested that a deputy contact him in reference to a subject whom he no longer wanted coming to the residence. An officer spoke with the caller. The caller was advised that they would have to go through the eviction process.
A caller Friday morning at North Second Avenue in Washington requested a call from an officer in reference to her options regarding issues with her daughter's refusal to attend school. An officer spoke with the caller, advising that the officer would have Juvenile Services contact her.
A caller Saturday morning at East Main Street in Washington reported that an unknown male subject walked into her apartment. The subject had left the residence in an unknown direction. He was described as being 5-feet-10-inches tall with long blond hair and wearing a red shirt and jeans. An officer was advised. Documentation was made.
A caller Saturday morning at East Main Street in Washington reported having an issue with a tenant. An officer responded. It was a civil issue.
A caller Saturday afternoon at Parkside Estates Road in Washington requested to speak to an officer about an incident with his father. An officer responded and transported the caller to his residence.
