Arrests
A caller reported being out on a vehicle stop, Thursday morning at South Second Avenue and East Jefferson Street in Washington. Three additional officers also responded. The vehicle was stolen out of Iowa County. Contact was made with Iowa County, and the owner planned to pick up the vehicle from the Police Department parking lot. Rollin J. Bontrager, 26, of Wellman, was arrested on charges of driving under suspension second offense, operating vehicle without owner's consent, and fraudulent use of registration.
A caller Thursday morning at Lexington Boulevard in Washington reported a subject at the county jail to turn themselves in on a Washington County warrant. Caprice Pascale Schaley, 21, of Washington, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for violation of probation on original charges of unlawful possession of prescription drug, and accessory to felony. Bond was $2,500 cash only. The warrant was cleared from the system.
An Iowa State Patrol officer was reported en route to the jail with an arrest, Thursday evening at Highway 218 and the Highway 92 ramp at Ainsworth. Abdiel Omar Del Rio Miranda, 21, of West Liberty, was arrested on a charge of driving under bar. The subject was also wanted by Cedar County for violation of probation on an original charge of OWI. Bond was $1,000 cash or surety. A hold was placed for Cedar County.
A caller Thursday night at Highway 22 in Riverside reported a van in the parking lot, parked in part of a handicap parking spot. Upon investigation, the caller found there was a screwdriver in the ignition. Also, the wrong plates were on the vehicle. The caller requested a deputy. The vehicle was a white Hyundai Santa Fe van. Veronica Collins, 34, of West Branch, was arrested on charges of driving while barred, no insurance, and illegal parking in a handicap spot.
Traffic accident
A caller Thursday night at Highway 92 in Keota reported hitting a deer on Highway 92. There were no injuries to vehicle occupants, and the responding officer believed the vehicle was drivable. An additional officer was advised for documentation.
A caller Thursday night at 300th Street and Coppock Road in Washington reported that a four-wheeler had been running up and down the road the past couple of nights, and they just rolled it, but no one was injured. The caller requested that a deputy speak with them. An officer responded. No one was around. The vehicle was a yellow Sportsman 500. One subject was taken to the hospital by private vehicle. A juvenile male was cited for failure to maintain control. A state accident report will be filed.
Disabled vehicles
A caller Thursday morning at Highway 218 and 220th Street in Ainsworth reported that she and her family were along Highway 218, out of the vehicle. The engine had caught on fire, and the fire was out at the time of the call. An officer responded and gave the five occupants a ride to the Four Corners, awaiting family to pick them up. The vehicle was still at the location, and the owners would be making arrangements for a tow. The vehicle was added to the system.
Animal complaint
A caller Thursday afternoon at East Seventh Street in Washington reported that a small black dog was not on a leash and came running at her off the property. The dog was not outside at the time an officer responded. The officer spoke with the owner.
A caller Thursday evening at East Main Street in Washington reported that his neighbor's brownish-black pitbull was on his property and came after his dogs. The caller requested an officer. An officer responded, along with the dog catcher. Kairon McClenan, of Washington, was cited for having a dog at large. The dog was left at the residence.
A caller Thursday night at Highway 1 in Washington reported that an adult male was beating on his dog on Tuesday when he drove by. The caller requested that a deputy check on it. The location was southwest of the house. An officer responded. Dogs were fine. The officer was unable to make contact with the dog owners, and planned to check back later on Thursday night.
Assault
A caller Thursday morning at F Avenue in Kalona reported a student out of control. An officer responded and transported the juvenile to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, arriving at 10:26 a.m. Charges will be filed against the juvenile for assault, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief. A report will be filed.
Burglary
A caller early Friday morning at West Columbus Street in Crawfordsville reported that a gray Silverado with a tool box in the back was leaving Crawfordsville at a high rate of speed. It was last seen traveling northbound on Highway 218, after the operator was seen earlier going through vehicles. Two officers responded. Charges will be filed for burglary, fifth-degree theft and carrying a concealed weapon.
Family offense nonviolent
A caller Thursday morning at Second Street in Wellman requested assistance with the caller's 17-year-old son, who was not wanting to attend school and would not get into the vehicle. An officer responded, and the son had already gotten into the vehicle upon the officer's arrival.
Intimidation/harassment
A caller Thursday morning at Willow Creek Lane in Riverside reported that a subject was harassing his wife's customers, and requested that a deputy speak with him. An officer responded and attempted to make contact with the subject, who was not available.
A caller Thursday night at Parkside Estates Road in Washington requested to speak to an officer about an incident with their son. An officer spoke with the caller. The information was documented.
Welfare check
A caller Thursday morning at North Mechanic Street in Brighton requested a welfare check on a subject. An officer responded and was unable to locate.
A caller Thursday afternoon at South Iowa Avenue in Washington reported a male subject in a red four-door SUV was parked in front of café dodici, possibly sleeping. The caller requested that someone check on him. The subject was fine, just waiting for a friend.
A caller Thursday night at South Iowa Avenue in Washington requested a welfare check on her husband and children, who were not answering their phone. The message was passed on. They were having issues between the two of them.
All other offenses
A caller Thursday morning at 170th Street in Washington reported being grabbed on the shoulder by a subject while attempting to complete a home inspection. An officer spoke with the caller and advised that they had a civil standby for future inspections. Documentation was made.
A caller Thursday afternoon at South Fourth Avenue in Washington reported that a female student left the school without permission. She was last seen wearing an orange hooded sweatshirt and multicolored leggings. An officer checked a residence but was unable to locate the subject.
