Police receive scam report
Mt. Pleasant?s Police Department received a report Sept. 5 of a scam.
The victim said someone identifying himself as an employee with a utilities department advised the victim that service was going to be shut down.
During the conversation, the victim provided his name, date of birth, Social Security number and a credit card number to the scammers. The victim?s credit card was then used soon after.

During the conversation, the victim provided his name, date of birth, Social Security number and a credit card number to the scammers. The victim?s credit card was then used soon after.
Mt. Pleasant Police advises residents to never provide their date of birth, Social Security number or credit card information over the phone without confirming discrepancies. Companies will mail notices before any acts so the customer must be initially notified by mail.
