WASHINGTON - A Washington man is in custody after police say he stabbed another city resident in the back, the morning of Thursday, June 5.
Police said the victim was transported by ambulance from outside a home on North Iowa Avenue to the University of Iowa Hospital for his injuries after officers “located (him) in the yard of the residence suffering from stab wounds to his back.” A Call For Service log provided by Washington County said police responded to the address for reports of an assault.
According to a city press release, officers accused and arrested Washington man Maicol Leonel Godoy-Moncada (28) for the stabbing. He’s charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, Willful Injury resulting in Serious Injury, Going Armed with Intent, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.
In court records, police allege Godoy-Moncada stabbed the victim with a kitchen knife “at least two times” following a “verbal altercation” that later turned physical. As of Friday morning, he was held in the Washington County jail, with bail set at $500,000 and a preliminary hearing scheduled June 13.
While the accused has a criminal record including convictions of public intoxication and criminal mischief, Iowa Courts Online shows no prior allegations against him for any violent crimes in the state.
