A juvenile is facing a charge of harassment first degree after an incident at Washington Middle School Thursday.
According to a joint news release from the district and the Washington Police Department, the district was made aware of a threat against the school.
“The district immediately took action and was able to determine the nature and source of the threat and notified the Washington Police Department of the threat,” the news release stated. “The district and law enforcement have taken appropriate action to address the threat and its source.”
According to dispatch logs, Washington police were called to the middle school at 1:45 p.m., Thursday for an “intimidation/harassment” call.
“We found out about the threat before anyone else,” Superintendent Willie Stone said Friday morning.
Neither the district nor the police released the nature of the threat “due to the requirements under the law to keep certain information confidential.”
According to the dispatch log, the student was suspended and a trespass order was placed.
The news release stated that the student will be referred to Juvenile Court.
Stone said that there was no lockdown at the school Thursday. School was in regular session on Friday as well.
