Rumors of the alleged killing of a bloodhound in Mt. Pleasant during homecoming week (the Panthers hosted the Ft. Madison Bloodhounds on Sept. 15 in the homecoming game) have been refuted by the Mt. Pleasant Police Department.
Lyle Murray, lieutenant with the local police department, said that in early September the department investigated the death of a dog that appeared to have died of natural causes.
The department has not received any calls of a reported dog hanging from any trees nor have any actual names surfaced regarding participating in the incident, Murray added.
He said the department has learned that Facebook has caused many of these rumors to spread with no factual basis.
The Mt. Pleasant Police Department will investigate any calls of animal abuse or neglect and asks that if someone actually observed a similar incident to call the department at 385-1450.
