Polling places
With June 7 primary elections right around the corner, candidates and government officials are encouraging voters to double check their polling places. Many find themselves casting ballots in different buildings and even different towns for the first time this year, after Census results shook up population data across the state.
Washington County
Washington County precincts are now located in Wellman, Brighton, Kalona, Richmond, Riverside, Ainsworth, and all four wards of Washington, meaning Crawfordsville and West Chester have lost their status as polling places.
- Ainsworth and Crawfordsville residents: vote at vote at the Ainsworth City Building and former elementary school, located at 835 Park St., Ainsworth. The location is also used by a very small portion Marion township residents.
- Brighton and eligible Coppock residents: vote at the Brighton Community Building on 100 East Washington Street in Brighton. The precinct is also shared by some out-of-town parts on the northwest end of Washington township, and by West Chester community members living south of Highway 92.
- Kalona residents: vote at the Community Building Gym, at 511 C Avenue in Kalona. The address is shared by a difficult-to describe northeastern chunk of English River Township.
- English River township residents not in the Kalona precinct: vote at Holy Trinity Parish Hall, 573 Howard Street, Richmond, not in Kalona as they have for the last decade. The precinct also includes the northwestern corner of Jackson Township and the northeaster quarter of Cedar Township.
- Riverside residents: now vote at the city’s fire station, not at city hall. The station’s address is 271 River Street, Riverside. The precinct is shared by the rest of Iowa Township and the Highland Township.

The area extends out of town to the south, covering a sliver of Washington township west of Airport Road and a sizable chunk of Marion township, although not the city of Coppock itself.
