The Fairfield Municipal Pool is going to the dogs ? literally!
Dogs and their owners will be able to swim and play from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in the fenced-in outdoor pool at O.B. Nelson Park before the pool is drained for the season.
Derik Wulfekuhle, director of the Fairfield Park and Recreation Department, said the event is hosted by and is a fundraiser for the Fairfield Dog Park Committee?s proposed off-leash dog park.
Admission is $10 for one dog, and $5 for the second dog.
?Anyone can come ? friendly dogs that aren?t in heat,? said Wulfekuhle.
?We?ll follow the same rules as if this was a real dog park,? he continued, highlighting the fact that dogs must be vaccinated and, for safety reasons, only two dogs are allowed per adult.
Other rules are:
? Only dogs and owners are allowed in the pool.
? Dogs must be on leaches when outside the pool area.
? Owners must clean up after their dogs. Bags will be provided.
? Children should not be left unattended.
? Participants need to bring their own towels.
? Aggressive dogs will be asked to leave.
Wulfekuhle said the inaugural pooch pool party was held last August before the pool closed for the season drew about 10 to 15 dogs, and it went well.
The dog park committee will use the proceeds for its proposed off-leash dog park.
Wulfekuhle said the group has looked at several different locations for the dog park and thought it would be at Lamson Woods. But the Fairfield City Council asked the committee to find a more appropriate location after a petition was signed by 207 people concerned about Lamson Woods being a small park with limited parking at a busy and unconventional intersection.
?Now, they?re raising more money until they can find a spot,? said Wulfekuhle. ?They?re looking for any suggestions for land, any help people can provide.?
Wulfekuhle said anyone who has suggestions could contact him at 472-6159.
