Pools, air-conditioned facilities offer heat relief

A heat advisory means that a period of hot temperatures and high humidity, which can lead to possible heat illnesses, is expected.
The weather service advised people to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun and check on relatives and neighbors, especially the elderly.
The hot temperature is expected to continue this week as the weather service has predicted a high of 92 on Wednesday, 87 on Thursday, 90 on Friday, 93 on Saturday and 88 on Sunday.
With temperatures forecast to be around 90 degrees, many people in Fairfield will be seeking relieve from the heat.
One way to cool off is to jump in a pool.
The municipal outdoor pool at O.B. Nelson Park is open 1-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 1-5 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
Roosevelt Aquatic Center at Roosevelt Recreation Center is open from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. It is closed Sunday,
Admission to both the outdoor and indoor pool is $3. Admission is free for children age 2 and younger.
The Maharishi University of Management pool is open to the public from 2-7:30 p.m. daily. Admission is $2.75 for adults and $2.25 for children younger than 16.
Swimming is free at the Waterworks Park ?swim-at-your-risk? beach.
Fairfield Senior Citizen Center site director Cindy White is inviting people to the center to avoid the heat while viewing big-screen TV, playing cards or doing puzzles.
The senior center is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and meals are served those days at 11:30 a.m.
Reservations for the meals can be made either at the center or by calling 472-4403.
Relief from the heat also can be found at Fairfield Public Library.
Visitors can read books, browse through magazines and newspapers, use computers or listen to CDs in the ?listening room.?
The library is open from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Wednesday; 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday; and 1- 5 p.m. Saturday.
