Portion of G36 to close for superload

It is anticipated G36 (220th Street) from Hwy 1 & 92 to Orange Avenue will be closed, beginning mid-morning, for 6-8 hours on Thursday, April 16, 2020, depending on the weather. Wolfe House Movers, LLC of Bernville, Pennsylvania will be moving a transformer from Washington to Millersburg. This load will be 18'6” wide and 180' long, and weighing nearly 750,000 lbs. County Engineer Jacob Thorius said 'this is the biggest permitted load the county has seen seek permission to be moved through the county. Our bridge consultant, who reviewed the permit because the move crosses one of our bridges, indicated this is probably the biggest load he has evaluated to see if it was ok to cross a bridge.” Thorius went on to say, 'the contractor worked with us to come up with a vehicle configuration that would distribute the weight of the load to minimize the impact of crossing the bridge on G36 which is allowing this move to happen.”

The route for this move leaving Washington will utilize W61 (Riverside Road) north out of Washington to G36 (220th Street) and then west to Hwy 92. Once they begin traveling on G36, the road will be closed to thru traffic to allow the moving company to reconfigure their moving equipment to redistribute the load as they cross the bridge on G36 over the South Fork of Long Creek. The time to reconfigure the load, cross the bridge and reconfigure the load for transport down the road to their final destination is estimated to take 6-8 hours. During this closure, drivers are encouraged to travel around the area by taking Hwy 92 and 12th Street through Washington.
