Portion of Libertyville Road to close soon
Apr. 30, 2024 4:23 pm
FAIRFIELD – Motorists traveling between Fairfield and Libertyville will have to take a detour soon, possibly within the next week, though the detour is likely to last just one week or two at the most.
The detour will route traffic along Key Boulevard to Fillmore Avenue. This is to accommodate road construction on Libertyville Road, where the road meets the west edge of the new roundabout on South Main Street in Fairfield. The road closure will also close Casey’s driveway that connects it to Libertyville Road.
Fairfield Public Works Director and City Engineer Melanie Carlson announced this week that road construction on South Main Street is nearly complete, and that the intersection with Fillmore Avenue should open to north, south and east traffic in the next few days. The west side of Fillmore Avenue will remain closed for another week or two until crews finish the construction on the storm sewer and sidewalk.
The only other bit of construction left on South Main Street are the repairs at the intersection with Buchanan Avenue. Construction on Buchanan Avenue will overlap with the road construction on Libertyville Road, and Buchanan Avenue will not be closed until the east side of Fillmore is open. Carlson said this work is minor and should only last one or two weeks.
