Editor's Note:
The following is a press release from Washington County Sheriff Jerry Dunbar concerning unauthorized advertisements that might have been made on behalf of Iowa sheriffs or deputies]
It has come to the attention of the ISSDA (Iowa State Sheriff and Deputy
Association) Board that a former GOLD STAR ad salesman, Ben Jamison is
using letters given to him several years ago, when he was an employee of
the GOLD STAR magazine, from Iowa Sheriffs to solicit ads for an Iowa Law
Enforcement magazine.
This came to light after one sheriff was visiting another sheriff. A call
came from a business in the sheriff's county, asking if this was a legitimate
request from the Sheriff. One of the sheriff's remembered Ben and it was
then discovered Ben is using a Mahaska County letterhead.
Our ISSDA President is speaking with the law enforcement group who Ben is
supposed to be selling ads for. It is not known if he has done this in any
other county. Please alert local businesses that I have not authorized Ben
Jamison to sell ads on my behalf or on behalf of the Iowa State
Sheriffs' and Deputies'.
This may be more a central Iowa issue, however we want everyone to be aware
of this.

Thank you
Sheriff Jerry A. Dunbar
