Prep Football: Warriors fall to West Branch

WEST BRANCH ? Cade Jones joined the 1,000-yard club with 111 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries, and the Bears of West Branch upended Van Buren 49-14 Friday night in West Branch.
West Branch (5-2, 4-1 District 6) needed just the first 24 minutes of regulation to score all 49 of their points. Bears quarterback Brandon Young finished the night 5-of-6 for 134 yards passing and hit Bo Bower with two touchdown passes in the first quarter.
Van Buren, meanwhile, was held to 13 rushing yards and nine passing yards in the first half.
Quarterback Blake Scott scrambled for 100 yards on 10 carries, including a 1-yard run in the fourth quarter to get Van Buren off the schnide. Scott also was 6-of-13 for 84 yards passing and connected with Zach Boyd on a 67-yard touchdown pass later in the fourth. Boyd finished the night with two catches for 74 yards.
Also for the Warriors, Curtis Thomas gained 24 yards on three carries and led the defense with 14 tackles. Mitchell Bartholomew added 10 tackles and Scott had seven.
A trip to Highland to face the 2-5 Huskies awaits Van Buren (1-6, 0-5) next Friday.
