Primary election season is coming to a close in Iowa, with Election Day coming Tuesday, June 7.
Washington County Supervisor Richard Young — who is running for re-election in an uncontested primary — encouraged the public to get out and vote, especially in local races.
“The candidate forum last Wednesday (was) well-attended … but when it came to the local races, most people got up and left,” he said. “Board of Supervisors, auditors, they’re still very important races for the county.”
Washington County Deputy Elections Administrator Sue Meeks said it was important for voters to check their polling locations before going to the ballot box.
“With all the changes with redistricting, I think it’s important that people are still sure about their polling place when in any doubt,” she said. “I think with this election, since it’s the first one incorporating those new precincts, I think they’re going to be frustrated because they’ll go to the wrong place, and realize they have to go somewhere else.”
Washington, Jefferson, and Henry counties each have a mix of contested federal, state and local races on the ballot.
