Public hearing set for Oct. 22
The Fairfield City Council will hold a public hearing at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in city hall to discuss a proposed urban revitalization plan to offer tax breaks for residents improving commercial, industrial or residential property.
The plan would allow property owners to apply for a three-year tax abatement on eligible improvements.
The proposed terms for the commercial/industrial plan would allow all qualified real estate to be exempt from taxation on 100 percent of the value of improvements made to the property.
Residential property owners could apply for 100 percent exemption on the first $75,000 of added value to the structure.
To qualify for either program, improvements to property must increase the value by at least 10 percent. Changing the footprint of the building is not required.
The proposed plan is available in the city clerk?s office at city hall. The public is invited to share feedback on the proposed plan.
Fall brush pickup begins Oct. 1
The city of Fairfield will begin its fall brush pickup Oct. 1.
The city is asking residents to place brush in an orderly pile adjacent to the street. Brush should be less than 24 inches in diameter and no longer than 13 feet, and should not include leaves and yard waste, which are picked up regularly with recycling.
The city will not be accepting bulk item trash pickup.
Bulk trash removal has been discontinued because of rising costs and funding deficits. Residents can contract with waste haulers or donate reusable items to local reuse businesses.
The city is making free mulch available to the public at the lot north of O?Reilly Auto Parts. Residents may call the city maintenance shed at 472-4750 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. weekdays for assistance from a city employee in loading the mulch. The city will not be held liable for any damage that may occur during the loading process.
