Statewide Iowa Public Television will broadcast ?Timeless Tractors,? a documentary hosted by Mark Pearson, at 8 p.m. Monday.
Pearson, a long-time host of Market to Market and other IPTV series and specials, and a veteran farm broadcaster on WHO Radio, died earlier this month at the age of 54.
Pearson?s love of ?old iron? was well-known, and he was an advocate for the restoration of antique farm tractors.
In 1996, he co-founded the ?Great Iowa Tractor Ride? with WHO Radio ? a tradition that continues today. The 16th annual tractor ride will take place Sunday to June 27, and the broadcast of ?Timeless Tractors? is scheduled to coincide with the ride.
In ?Timeless Tractors,? originally broadcast in 2003, Pearson reminisced about the advent of mechanized agriculture and the love affair people have with antique farm tractors.
The program features people from all walks of life who collect and restore these old relics, from farmers with an appreciation for the utility of the machines to urban collectors who delight in the hunt for old iron.
?Timeless Tractors? traces the history of the farm tractor, takes a look at the people who were instrumental in the mechanization of farming and examines how farm tractors revolutionized American agriculture.
