Rachel Albright Day to be held this weekend
The Ft. Madison chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be hosting the Rachel Albright Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 18, in Ft. Madison.
Rachel Wilson Albright was the granddaughter of Betsy Ross, who is credited with making the first American flag for George Washington. Albright was a resident of Ft. Madison from 1841 until her death on April 15, 1905.

The Ft. Madison chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be hosting the Rachel Albright Day from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 18, in Ft. Madison.
Rachel Wilson Albright was the granddaughter of Betsy Ross, who is credited with making the first American flag for George Washington. Albright was a resident of Ft. Madison from 1841 until her death on April 15, 1905.
Festivities will include visits to Albright?s gravesite at the Ft. Madison City Cemetery in the 1400 block of Avenue H, with Judy Bartachek portraying Albright at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 2 p.m.
At St. Luke?s Episcopal Church, 605 Avenue E, a full size replica of Betsy Ross flag will be displayed, as well as a flag made by Albright. The home of Rachel Albright, at 716 ? 718 Avenue F, will also be open to visitors. Owners Rob and Carol Davis will greet visitors with pictorial displays and information.
The North Lee County Historical Society Museum, at 814 10th St., will have a special exhibit featuring period dress, books and Albright memorabilia. The Ft. Madison Public Library, at 1920 Avenue E., will have Rachel Albright flags, books and paintings of early Ft. Madison on display.
