The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities reports rain will change to snow this evening and continue overnight.
The snow will be moderate to locally heavy at times over portions of southeast Iowa, west central and northwest Illinois, where 2 to 4 inches of slushy, wet snow accumulation is possible. One to 2 inches of snow accumulation will be possible over much of the rest of the outlook area.
The snow will be accompanied by strong northerly winds at 20 to 30 mph which will result in periods of low visibility. The snow will be wet in nature and therefore should limit any blowing and drifting.
Uncertainty remains where the track and strength of this storm system will be, which will have an impact on location and amounts.
A winter weather advisory is in effect tonight and early Wednesday
morning for portions of the outlook area south and east of the Quad Cities.
Snowfall will end Wednesday morning with additional accumulations of less than an inch. North winds will be gusting to around 30 mph during the morning and early afternoon hours, with the winds diminishing later in the afternoon.
With temperatures in the upper 20s to lower 30s, less traveled roads will remain snow and slush covered and hazardous, especially in the morning.
Snow melt runoff and ice jam potential on rivers increases again late this week as a rapid warm-up returns.
