Real estate, mobile home taxes due

WASHINGTON — Second half real estate and mobile home taxes were due March 1 and must be paid by April 1 to avoid penalty. On April 2, a penalty of 1.5% per month (rounded to the nearest whole dollar with a $1.00 minimum) will attach.

In order to reduce wait times and provide the best service possible, the county treasurer encourages payments to be mailed to the Washington County Treasurer at P.O. Box 889, Washington, Iowa, 52353, placed in the drop box located by the west door of the courthouse, or paid online at www.iowatreasurers.org.

Statement coupons must accompany payments. Payments sent by mail must have a U.S. Postal Service postmark date of April 1 or earlier to avoid penalty. Predated checks will not be accepted as a substitute for the proper postmark.

Taxes remaining unpaid on May 31, 2024, will be advertised as delinquent and those remaining unpaid on June 17, 2024, will be offered at the annual tax sale.
