Recarpeting will disrupt service at Washington Public Library

The Washington Public Library will have some service disruptions over the next month or so.
Work began Monday on replacing carpet on all three floors of the library, a project that is expected to last until mid-July.
“This was not something planned,” Director Bryna Walker said. “This is all because of the glass falling and shattering everywhere.”
In April, a large pane of glass that served as one of the decorative interior windows in the upper level of the library, fell to the main floor and shattered.
Walker said that various sections of the library will be closed at different times while the new carpet is being installed.
“As we move sections, we will close off areas,” Walker said.
Work began on the kids’ area on Monday.
On Tuesday, carpet will be installed on the main floor of the library. As a result, the library will be closed all day Tuesday.
On July 5, equipment will be brought in to move bookshelves, resulting in another library closure.
“We are closed anyway on July 5,” Walker said. “We may have to close an additional day or two for that.”
“The conference rooms are closed, period,” Walker said. “Right now, we’re storing things in there, and we will be recarpeting that area.”
The gallery and the sitting area also will be closed, but Walker was not sure of what days that will be at this time.
She recommended that people follow the library’s Facebook page to keep up with the closures.
