Recent rain has kept the Henry County secondary roads department busy repairing potholes that have been forming in the county?s gravel roads.
?This drizzly rain we?ve been getting has probably not been helping our roads,? commented County Engineer Bill Belzer. ?They?re taking a pretty good beating from the drizzle we?re getting.?
Belzer noted during his weekly update at the board of supervisors meeting on Tuesday morning that crews have been out blading the gravel roads and that in some cases potholes have formed again after the road had just been repaired in the area.
However, in spite of the problems created by the rain, Belzer noted that it?s also been good for the gravel roads as it keeps the dust levels down.
Crews have also been working on the shoulders of the county?s paved roads and sign crews have been out, noted Belzer. The Department of Transportation has also been working on patching roads.
Belzer also informed the supervisors that his department had received the two dump trucks the county purchased earlier this year.
?They look nice. They look very, very nice,? commented Belzer.
He noted that the trucks have stainless steel in the back by the taillights, which will help the trucks to last longer as this is the area of the truck most prone to rusting.
In other business, County Auditor Shelly Barber announced that county will be holding a bulky trash day at the central waste collection site behind the Emergency Management Building on Nov. 9 and 10.
Like the regular waste collection service, the bulky trash day will be available to rural residents only.
