Reckless driving at Henry and Brazelton

Early this morning, at approximately 1:51 a.m., the Mt. Pleasant Police Department was called to the 200 block of North Brazelton Street about a report of a hit-and-run collision.

Officers determined that Jamie Joe West, no age listed, of Mt. Pleasant was driving a 1998 GMC Sierra, owned by Lyn Orwig of Mt. Pleasant, when the incident occurred. West was eastbound on East Henry Street and failed to negotiate the turn, where Henry and Brazelton streets meet at a T-intersection.

The GMC Sierra then drove up onto the lawn on the east side of Brazelton Street. West struck a fire hydrant, snapping it off and continued on to strike a vehicle parked in the driveway.

The vehicle struck was a black 2003 Chrysler Concorde owned by Mike Wilson. The Chrysler was struck broadside causing damage.

West then left the scene of the incident but a short time later contacted police to report the collision.

The damage to the Chrysler, the yard at the residence and the fire hydrant was estimated at $6,000. The damage to the GMC Sierra was estimated at $500.

There were no injuries reported at the scene.

West is being charged with reckless driving and driving on the wrong side of the roadway.
