Engineer Jerry Long is optimistic reconstruction of Third Street and Cromwell Street will wrap up this week.
After the Fairfield City Council accepted the 2009 and 2010 street patching projects as complete Monday evening, Long reported on the status of the streets undergoing reconstruction.
?Third Street is progressing ? two blocks of the four are paved,? Long said. The remaining two blocks should be trimmed and rocked today and paved Wednesday.
Work on Third Street was held up by shallow gas lines, which needed to be handled by Alliant Energy.
Cromwell Street was backfilled Monday, and should be graded and completed today, Long reported.
The council voted to accept the donation of property at 102 S. 23rd St.
Although the building, formerly Chappell Studio and Bell?s Honda, would need renovation, city administrator Jeff Clawson said it is structurally sound and would require little investment to winterize.
The roughly 8,000-square-foot building and the land on which it sits are valued at $182,000. The building may be used in negotiations with Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad as the city pursues ownership of the Howard Park depot; BNSF has requested an alternate facility in exchange.
A request for a variance permitting Community 1st Credit Union to upgrade its electronic sign at 2501 W. Burlington Ave. was tabled until the sign ordinance is revised.
