Karen Crossland, left, and Aleta Mottet were but two of the roughly 60 participants in the ?Stand up for Religious Freedom? rally held noon to 1 p.m. Friday in Central Park. The Fairfield rally was one of three held Friday in Iowa, with about 160 such rallies across the nation. A letter from Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds in support of religious freedom was read. Part of the letter said, ?Our religious liberty is under attack like never before. The idea that an unconstitutional mandate can force our hand, against our will and religion, should frighten us all. And in, of all places, America. Unfortunately, this is precisely what we face.? Those in attendance were encouraged to register to vote, to vote and tell others to vote. The Rev. Lynn Maselli from Fairfield Friends Church quoted Irish philosopher and polititician Edmund Burke, saying, ?All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.? Maselli also said, ?We obey our government, we support our government, we pray for our government. But when government interferes in what is right, that is wrong. Vote your values, vote your faith, vote.?
