State Rep. Jarad Klein (R-Keota) announced Wednesday that he did not plan to seek re-election to the Iowa House in 2022. Under recently approved state redistricting boundaries, the decision leaves House District 92 without an incumbent.
“It’s time to get back home,” he said “I’ve got young kids that are active in different things that I’ve missed a lot of, I need to get back home to the kids and the farm.”
Klein said in a news release that he was happy with the work he’d done since taking office in 2011.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to represent Southeast Iowa in the Statehouse these past 12 years,” the news release said. “As I announce my intention to not seek re-election, I can look back with immense pride on everything we’ve accomplished, including farm protections, safeguarding second amendment rights, balancing the state budget, supporting our law enforcement, and the changes made to collective bargaining.”
Klein will continue to serve until the next election in the State House, where he is Chairman of the Public Safety committee and a member of the Agriculture, Judiciary and Environmental Protection committees.
““Once again, it was truly a pleasure to serve the people of House District 78 in this capacity for the past 12 years,” the news release concluded. “Thank you for entrusting me to represent you.”
