The City of Washington will soon be conducting a survey of the town?s residents in an effort to obtain a grant for a new wastewater treatment plant. The city plans to contact between 300 and 400 residents within the week and ask them two questions: 1) The number of people in their household; 2) The household?s annual income.
City Administrator Dave Plyman said the surveys will be sent to households selected at random and that information obtained in the survey will be kept completely confidential.
?The numbers from the survey will be included in the grant application we send to the state, but the names of the people we survey will not be associated with the information they provide,? said Plyman.
Plyman said that receiving the grant is based solely on the percentage of residents who earn low to moderate incomes. He said it is important that the city receive a high response rate from its residents and that those people surveyed answer the questions truthfully. The city will not send out the surveys in the mail but rather will contact residents in person or over the phone.
