The Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Fairfield was bustling with activity Wednesday as the public flocked to take in the 4-H and FFA livestock shows, grab a meal at one of the food vendors and enjoy carnival rides for the first time since 2019.
The show arena hosted the cat, pet and dog shows in the afternoon. Elsewhere on the fairgrounds, youngsters were busy preparing their animals for shows later in the week, like Natalie Steele, who was washing her steer named Joe for the market farm-raised steer show Saturday. Natalie said this is her second year participating in the fair. She comes to the fairgrounds every day to care for Joe, and her sister who comes to care for her calf, while her family members tend to the other cows at home.
Natalie said Joe loves getting cleaned up, and he doesn’t mind the water.
“He loves the bath, blow dryer, brush … everything,” Natalie said.
