FAIRFIELD — The public is invited to a retirement celebration for Richard Beall, who is stepping down this year as co-head of school at Maharishi School.
The event will begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 8 in Clark Auditorium at Maharishi School in Fairfield. Beall and his wife Andrea helped establish Maharishi School in 1981, making it the first preschool through Grade 12 school in the country founded on consciousness-based education (CBE). He served as administrative director, teacher, coach, and principal over the next 10 years.
Dr. Beall started the school’s sports program and helped achieve its accreditation with the Iowa Department of Education and the Independent Schools Association of the Central States. CBE has now been adopted by over 200 schools in 53 countries.
In 1990-91, Richard and Andrea traveled to her father’s homeland, Bulgaria, to establish the Transcendental Meditation program. Their team taught 2,000 people this research-based technique for stress management and personal development. Within two years Bulgaria had its own native TM Teachers and organization.
Beall holds a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and earned his Doctorate in 1996 at Maharishi University of Management. His dissertation was selected as the university’s most outstanding of the year. He then moved to North Carolina where he organized the Consciousness-Based Education Association and administered CBE programs in schools across the United States. He has given many presentations on this innovative approach in conferences, workshops, and seminars.
In 2003, Beall founded Carolina International School, an award-winning public charter school near Charlotte, North Carolina. After guiding the school for four years, he returned to Maharishi School in 2008 when he was appointed Head of School. In the past 10 years, Beall restored the school’s boarding program and oversaw significant changes to the school culture and functioning.
