Gov. Kim Reynolds said she will follow a 'modified quarantine plan,” after U.S. Vice President Mike Pence's press secretary tested positive for coronavirus she said during her news conference on Monday.
'These steps are similar to what I've asked all Iowans to do if they come into contact with someone with the virus,” she said during Monday's news conference.
Reynolds was at the White House last Wednesday to visit with President Donald Trump about Iowa's COVID-19 response. Pence also met with Reynolds and U.S. Sens Chuck Grassley and Joni Ernst in Iowa on Friday.
Reynolds added that she had no direct contact with the vice president's press secretary, but she was present during the White House meeting last week.
Along with the 'modified quarantine plan,” Reynolds said she will be tested for the virus daily and most recently tested negative. She added she will wear a mask and practice social distancing.
'I want to ensure Iowans I'm healthy and I'm fully-focused,” Reynolds said.
Across the state, Iowa saw 389 new COVID-19 cases on Monday for a total of 12,373. Iowa also had six additional deaths for a total of 271 Iowans who have died due to the virus.
Locally, Washington County saw three additional cases, bringing the county total to 162. Jefferson County also saw one new case, bringing its total to seven. Henry County had no new cases on Monday.
Overall, 77,792 Iowans have been tested for COVID-19 so far, which equates to 1 in 40 Iowans.
