The owners of the Mainstay Inn are seeking to have their property at 300 N. Main St. rezoned from a B-1 general business district to a R-3 multi-family residential district.
The property is currently for sale, and owner Kate Ross said rezoning the Mainstay will give potential buyers more options.
If zoned residential, the buyer may continue to operate a bed and breakfast, simply live in the home or do both, Ross said.
The couple originally requested the property be rezoned ? from residential to business ? roughly five years ago to accommodate plans for a coffee shop in the carriage house, Ross said.
The local Planning and Zoning Commission will review the request Jan. 16. If approved there, the request will go to the Fairfield City Council, which has planned a public hearing for 7:30 p.m. Jan. 23.
