The Riverside City Council enacted a new speed limit on Buckeye Lane and Kleopfer Avenue at its meeting Tuesday night. The current speed limit on those streets is 25 mph and will be lowered to 15 mph sometime next week. The council lowered the speed limit because those streets will be used by children who cross them to get to the Riverside Elementary School.
City Administrator Tina Thomas said, ?I think everyone is excited there will be a second access to the school. We haven?t received any opposition to this idea from the people who live there.?
The new access to the school will be on the west side and come out on Kleopfer Avenue. The council passed the second reading of the ordinance to change the speed limit, and then voted to waive the third reading.
The council also voted to reject all the bids to dispose of old and fallen trees around town. Councilor Rodney Waldschmidt made the motion, arguing that a new tree had fallen down in the park and that this would affect the work the contractors would do. Because of this change, he said the council should throw the bids out and start over. The two bidders were Green Acres, owned by Jason Beck, and T.K. Enterprises, owned by Terry Philips.
Prior to that vote, the council discussed whether it should award the contract to Beck even though he did not include proof of liability insurance in his bid. Riverside City Attorney Leslie Lamping said that Beck?s bid was not in compliance with the requirements asked of the bidders.
