Riverside Road closes Wednesday for resurfacing project
Jul. 6, 2021 11:53 am
Beginning Wednesday, Riverside Road (W61) will be closed for a concrete overlay project between 190th Street (G26) and Spruce Avenue in Washington County.
This project will resurface and widen the existing pavement with six inches of Portland Cement Concrete and involve paving a portion of the shoulders.
Flynn Company of Dubuque was awarded the project for $3,540,988.
SWAP construction dollars – state funds that cities and counties can swap for using federal funds that were allocated locally – are being used to pay for this project.
In addition, the paved shoulders are being paid for by a $500,000 Traffic Safety Improvement Program grant.
Weather permitting, Riverside Road is scheduled to be closed to thru traffic at 8 a.m., Wednesday.
Traffic will be detoured around the project using G26 (190th Street), Highway 1 and Highway 22. Residents are encouraged to use the designated detour route and to use caution while traveling on the detour.
Riverside Road will be closed to thru traffic for the duration of the project, which is tentatively scheduled to be completed by early October.
Washington County Engineer Jacob Thorius said that he realizes this project will create an inconvenience for local traffic, however, when the project is completed it will create a significant improvement to Riverside Road, ultimately making it safer and improve traffic flow.
