Ron and Char Andersen met through 4-H in Audubon County, Iowa, in 1960.
They attended different high schools and lived about six miles apart.
Char was elected Audubon County Girls 4-H president, and Ron was elected County Boys 4-H president in 1960-61.
They worked together to help plan the annual county 4-H banquet, county officer training and social activities.
'We would often ride together to some of these activities and then started dating,” Char remembers.
They moved to Washington in 1966, when Ron was hired as vocational agriculture teacher at Washington High School.
They have two children who were in 4-H. Kristin was a member of American Girls club, where Char was a leader for a several years, and Kent was a member of the Go Getters club.
The Anderson family made many trips to the State Fair with projects and demonstrations. Ron was on 4-H Extension Council.
Ron and Char still have their record books to this day - from 60 years ago.
'4-H has always been a big part of our lives - the life skills we learned were huge!”
