Salem Friends Church, founded in 1838, is Henry County?s second-oldest church. Although members of the Society of Friends met in homes for a couple of years before the actual founding of the church, the first gathering at the meeting house was in October of 1838.
The Salem Meeting is the oldest meeting of Friends west of the Mississippi River.
