Salem Old Settlers 129th celebration this weekend
The 129th Salem Old Settlers celebration commences tomorrow evening, Friday, Aug. 24.
Friday?s festivities begin with a car show running from 5 to 8 p.m. A ham and bean supper will be held at the shelter house at 5:30 p.m.
Overlapping the car show, the Jefferson County Green Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m.
Also, Bingo will be held throughout the celebration on Friday and Saturday.

The 129th Salem Old Settlers celebration commences tomorrow evening, Friday, Aug. 24.
Friday?s festivities begin with a car show running from 5 to 8 p.m. A ham and bean supper will be held at the shelter house at 5:30 p.m.
Overlapping the car show, the Jefferson County Green Band will perform from 6 to 9 p.m.
Also, Bingo will be held throughout the celebration on Friday and Saturday.
Saturday?s events start bright and early with the Salem Fire Department?s pancake breakfast from 6 to 9 a.m. The breakfast will be held at the community center.
The annual Fun Run will also be held Saturday morning. The kids? half-mile Fun Run for children nine years old and younger is slated to start at 7:30 a.m. The 2.2-mile Fun Run or 6.2-mile walk begins at 8 a.m.
A parade with the theme ?Here Comes the Sun? Here Comes the Fun? will start at 10:30 a.m. The parade route goes around the Salem square.
The historic Lewelling House museum will be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The home was part of the Underground Railroad.
A lunch will be available from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the community center by the Salem Fire Department. Ham and turkey is on the menu for lunch.
The 65 and older registration is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration for the pedal pull begins at noon on the north side of the square. The pull will be held at 1 p.m.
The Salem Crew Public Library will be hosting multiple events throughout the day. The Country School Memories Reunion is from 1 to 3 p.m. A quilt show will simultaneously be held in the library from 1 to 4 p.m. And a silent auction is to be from 1 to 4:30 p.m.
Recognitions and announcements will be given at 3 p.m. and a barbecue chicken dinner will be available at the shelter house at 5 p.m.
Salem will be filled with music all afternoon Saturday. Burnt Grass, a blue grass group, will perform from noon to 2 p.m. The Scrubs will take the stage from 2 to 3 p.m., followed by Cali Wilson and the Half Line Riders, who will play from 3:15 to 5 p.m. David Kroll will wrap up the live music with a set from 6 to 9 p.m.
After the live music has packed up a teen dance will be held at the city basketball court from 9 to 11 p.m.
The Old Settlers festivities will end with a church service in the park on Sunday morning at 10 a.m. with the Loren Wissmann Family from Milford, Neb.
