FAIRFIELD - The snowy, holiday-decorated Central Park made a fitting atmosphere for Santa to visit with children this weekend.
Cars with children pulled up to the northeast corner of the square to tell Santa what they would like for Christmas. The kids were given a treat bag with a candy cane and a 2020 Fairfield ornament that a photo can be placed in.
Santa would normally speak to kids in his special Christmas house, but the COVID-19 pandemic prevented that.
Jim Huffman said initially, they weren't going to be able to hold the event, but they agreed to do a drive through Santa with proper social distancing and masks.
Huffman's business JC Huffman Cabinetry built the Santa house and made the ornaments.
He said the COVID-19 pandemic is taking everything away from the kids.
'We were bound and determined to find a way to get Santa Claus out here,” Huffman said.
Friday night did not see many kids, but Saturday night had a steady flow of visitors.
'I've seen 25 kids, and if all I see is 25 kids, those kids are happy,” Santa said. 'Whether I see 25 or 225 kids, we've made 25 kids happy.”
Santa will return to Fairfield on Friday and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Kids will have a last chance to talk with him on
Dec. 23.
