Minister Widmer of Washington Mennonite Church led Halcyon House’s Chapel Services this past Sunday in Epworth Chapel at Halcyon’s Washington campus. The sermon was titled The Meaning of Christmas and attendees read from Luke 2: 9-14.
It was a beautiful Sunday service with special guests and music. It’s been a busy month here at Halcyon House as we have been getting in the holiday spirit by decorating Christmas trees, households, and outside of our campus.
All of the residents have been enjoying looking at all of the décor and it has inspired some to do some decorating of their own! Last week, the Sunrise Singers visited Halcyon House and performed some Christmas Carols for our residents. This was also followed by a Cocoa & Carols Social for Independent Living and Sitler where residents drank hot cocoa, visited with one another, and even competed against one another in Christmas Trivia. The team named “The Elves” won with 17/20 points!
Our Wedgewood, Arborwood, Sagewood, and Rosewood residents were treated on Tuesday to the many sights of Christmas throughout the campus. Residents went to look over 14 of our Christmas trees we have around campus. Everyone agreed it was very difficult to pick a favorite tree as there were so many and they were all so unique!
On a very windy Wednesday, Santa and his elf assistant blew in from the North Pole to pass out presents to all of the households. A secret Santa party was celebrated in all of the households with a wonderful array of cookies, candy’s, homemade fudge, and a hot chocolate bar with whip cream, marshmallows, peppermint sticks, and so much more. This topped off a great way to start the holiday festivities.
Later on in the week, everyone frosted and decorated their own Christmas cookie and enjoyed their cookie with a mug of hot chocolate. Christmas music and a kindly, HO HO HO, could be heard during our Christmas celebrations. Oh, what a fun and very busy week had by all!
We’d like to wish a happy birthday to Audrey Goldsmith (Dec. 20).
