Saturday’s Washington County legislative briefing canceled

The Washington County legislative briefing that was scheduled for Saturday at the Courthouse has been canceled.

Policy and budget disagreements between the two chambers continue to impede agreements on various priorities.

Several measures have stalled due to the House and Senate passing their own versions of legislation and not reaching an agreement on a path forward.

Most notably, lawmakers have not been able to come to an agreement on unemployment benefits or an education package.

Legislators also continue working on the FY23 budget.

The House has completed all of its initial work on the budget, but there have not been any agreements announced with the Senate on the various proposals sent over from the House.

Lawmakers are required to approve a state budget before the session can adjourn.

Work this week is likely to be on-call with legislators coming to the floor when agreements on various bills have been reached.

Retirement speeches for outgoing Legislators, including State Rep. Jarad Klein, have also begun.
