The Fairfield Community School District Board of Directors voted Monday night to freeze salaries for administrators and support staff for the 2010-11 school year.
?Although the state of Iowa budget should not be balanced on the backs of the public employees of the state, the administrative team believes containment of expenditures is important for the Fairfield Community School District during the present financial crisis,? said superintendent Don Achelpohl. ?As the educational leadership of the district, we want to be a proactive part of assisting the district through this critical time.?
?This is a wonderful move on [the administration team?s] part,? said board president Gail Miller.
Each of the administration team members had signed off on the salary freeze proposal. Those team members are: Achelpohl; district business manager Kim Sheets; curriculum director Marci Dunlap; technology director Jason Kurth; auxiliary director Fred McElwee; activities director Bret Moews; Fairfield High School principal Art Sathoff; FHS associate principal Aaron Becker; Fairfield Middle School principal Mike Dailey; FMS associate principal Kelly Schloss; Washington Elementary School principal Joe Carr; Libertyville and Lincoln elementary schools principal Sue McCracken; and Pence Elementary School principal Nathan Wear.
Board member Margaret Dwyer pointed out it would have been difficult to freeze the salaries of the support staff if the top leaders weren?t freezing their own.
