To raise awareness about the critical need to provide every child with a quality public education, Fairfield Community School District is hosting multiple activities as part of the National Education Association?s 90th annual American Education Week celebration Monday through Nov. 18.
These activities will be part of a nationwide effort to draw attention to American Education Week?s tagline, ?Great Public Schools: A Basic Right and Our Responsibility.? The tagline represents NEA?s vision of calling upon all Americans to do their part in making public schools great for every child so that they can grow and achieve in the 21st century.
About American Education Week
NEA?s American Education Week presents all Americans with an opportunity to honor individuals who are making a difference in ensuring that every child receives a quality education. The weeklong celebration spotlights the different people who are critical in building great public schools for the nation?s 50 million kindergarten through 12th-grade students.
Events planned in Fairfield
Fairfield?s American Education Week celebration days include:
? Monday: Student Appreciation Day. Positive student contributions will be recognized by each building. Staff and students are all encouraged to wear building or district clothing to show their pride.
? Tuesday: Parents Day. Staff members and students will send personal thank-you notes to parents who participated in parent/teacher conferences or who have contributed positively to education in some way this year. Time will be allocated for students and staff to write notes of appreciation for teachers who have impacted their lives. An appreciation breakfast is set from 6-8 a.m. Tuesday in the Fairfield High School Commons for all Fairfield school district employees and their guests. Invitations will be sent to guests.
? Wednesday: Education Support Professionals Day. Individuals who provide invaluable services to schools will be recognized for their outstanding work by each building in the district. A tribute will be published on the front page of the district website.
? Nov. 17: Educator for a Day. Walking a mile in another?s shoes is a phenomenal way to develop respect and understanding for the craft of teaching. Guest readers, teachers switching classrooms, community members sharing what education means to them are just a few ways the district will celebrate and share the joys of teaching.
