Twenty-seven envelopes, sealed and taped closed, identified only with a letter from A through Z, plus AA, were accepted by the Fairfield school board during the board meeting Monday evening.
Each of the envelopes containing the name of a teacher, whose contract is being terminated at the end of this school year, was passed on to district business manager Kim Sheets to be filed as a confidential document in each teacher?s personnel records.
Superintendent Don Achelpohl explained the 27 envelopes do not mean 27 teachers are being laid off. Some of the envelopes contain names of teachers whose duties are changing. For example, next year, some may be working fewer days or no longer have additional duties or extra-curricular assignments that result in extra pay. Their continuing contracts have to be terminated before new contracts reflecting the change can be issued for next year.
