UPDATE: Legislative Forum in Fairfield canceled
Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Mendy McAdams announced Thursday that the Legislative Forum planned for Saturday, April 20 has been canceled.
“As you may have heard, our local legislators are working diligently to finish this session. With several budget bills to get through, they will be working late Friday and most likely Saturday as well. Unfortunately, that means we need to cancel this event,” McAdams wrote in an email.
“We appreciate those who have sponsored these events to keep them free and open to the public: Fairfield Community School District, Morrissey Law Offices, Fairfield Arts and Convention Center, Jefferson County Farmers and Neighbors (JFAN), and the Sierra Club. We will try to reschedule if it fits into their schedules. Watch for our Candidate Forum in October!”

The Fairfield Chamber of Commerce is excited to announce its final Legislative Forum this season, an event designed to facilitate open dialogue between community members and local legislators.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, April 20 at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. The doors open at 7 a.m. with the event starting promptly at 7:30 a.m. and ending at 9 a.m. This forum aims to enlighten citizens on what is happening at the state capital.
Please note that our local representation has alerted us that they may end up working the weekend at the state capital. We will not know if this is for sure happening until Friday afternoon. Please watch our Facebook and website for updates!
At the Fairfield Chamber Legislative Forum, attendees will have the opportunity to engage directly with elected officials, to discuss a wide range of topics impacting our area. This forum will serve as a platform for meaningful conversation and constructive exchange of ideas.
The forum will feature updates from local legislators about what they are currently working on and a Q&A session. This allows participants to gain insights, share perspectives, and build relationships with local leaders and fellow community members. Whether you are a business owner, resident, or advocate, your input and participation are vital in shaping the future of Fairfield. By fostering dialogue and collaboration, we can work together to address challenges, seize opportunities, and drive positive change in Fairfield and beyond.

The forum will feature the three Iowa legislators who represent Jefferson County, who are:
• Iowa State Senator Adrian Dickey of Senate District 44
• Iowa House Representative Jeff Shipley of District 87
• Iowa House Representative Helena Hayes of District 88
McAdams said the chamber opted to go with two forums this year, one in February and one in April, instead of four to accommodate the legislators’ busy schedule.
Residents who attend the forums are treated to free donuts and coffee courtesy of the forums’ sponsors.
